What is SmartSoil AI?
SmartSoil AI (Beijing Dizhi Keji Co., Ltd.) is an agri-tech company based in Chaoyang, Beijing. We build AI tools that help smallholder farmers understand their soil and crops: the SmartSoil 8-in-1 pocket soil sensor, the Famo AI farming app and dashboards, satellite field monitoring and crop disease detection — voice-first, in the farmer's own language.
What is the difference between SmartSoil AI and Famo AI?
SmartSoil AI is the company. Famo AI is our current app and platform — the mobile app, the farmer dashboard and the organisation dashboard — and also the name of its voice-first AI farming agent. The original “SmartSoil AI” app is no longer in active development; Famo AI is its successor.
What does the SmartSoil 8-in-1 soil sensor measure?
The 8-in-1 portable sensor measures pH, NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), EC, moisture, salinity, temperature, organic matter and calcium, with results in under a second, verified at 95% accuracy against a government soil-lab benchmark. A test costs about $10, compared with about $50 at a laboratory.
What can Famo AI do?
Famo AI gives farmers instant soil analysis, an AI crop advisor for fertiliser, irrigation and pest questions, disease detection from a photo, satellite field monitoring, daily tasks and irrigation schedules. It is available as a mobile app on Google Play and as web dashboards for farms and organisations.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. The SmartSoil Gateway runs edge AI (TinyML), so core soil analysis and recommendations work offline, with 4G and LEO satellite fallback for connectivity when needed.
Which languages are supported?
The Famo app, the dashboards and this website are available in 12 languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, Portuguese, Dutch, French and Bulgarian — and Famo is voice-first, so farmers can simply talk to it in their own language.
Where is SmartSoil AI available?
We are live in Bangladesh and Pakistan today, with planned expansion to Brazil, Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia. See our roadmap for the full timeline.
How much does Famo AI cost?
Famo AI is priced per crop season, not per month. Starter is free, with monthly limits. A Season Pass is $9 per field per season (up to about five months), and a Farm Pass is $29 per season for up to five fields. There is no auto-renewal. Cooperatives, NGOs, corporate growers and governments get custom pricing.
Do I need the SmartSoil sensor to use Famo?
No. Satellite monitoring, tasks, the AI advisor and disease detection work without it. The 8-in-1 sensor adds fast, accurate soil readings and makes the recommendations even more precise.
Can I try Famo without creating an account?
Yes. Open the live demo — a read-only farmer or organisation dashboard filled with sample data. No sign-up is needed.
Can businesses buy agricultural equipment from SmartSoil AI?
Yes. The SmartSoil Agri Marketplace lists more than 100 products — drones, robots, soil sensors, tractors, irrigation equipment and more — from our manufacturing partners in China, for business buyers worldwide. There is no online checkout: you request a quote, our team discusses your requirements, and a contract is agreed before any payment. Products work with our localised Famo AI software, with lifetime software support.
Which awards has SmartSoil AI won?
The ITEC 2025 Innovation Award (¥200,000), the ATA Venture Builders 2025 Best Innovation Award, 2nd Prize at the UNESCO Youth Climate Action & Disaster Resilience Challenge and the 2023 BIG Award. We were also a HICOOL finalist and are a member of NVIDIA Inception, AWS Startups and Google for Startups.
